- Whitworth takeover | Afrocats
Afrocats will be back at the Whitworth Art Gallery during October half term with our award winning activities for children, young people and families. We'll fill the gallery with African and Caribbean songs as well as delivering our cultural and creative arts and crafts workshops. Afrocats x Whitworth presents: Shimmy and shake through the gallery Half-term activities Each session runs from 12pm-3pm All sessions are free, drop-in, no need to book Join us for three fun-filled days and a vibrant and creative cultural experience for all ages. Shimmy and shake your way through the gallery listening to the cultural music that will echo through the galleires. The Everyday Art School will have different arts and crafts activities each day that you can attend to let your imagination run wild. Led by diverse professional artists, this event is a great opportunity to learn about and celebrate culture. The activities are designed to be inclusive and accessible to everyone, regardless of age or experience. All sessions are FREE, drop-in, no need to book. Everyone is welcome. Our partner For the first phase of our project we worked with The Menopause Charity to provide three workshops about the menopause for 30 women from three culturally specific groups - South Asian, African and Middle Eastern/Arab. Each workshop had volunteer interpreters to support the women to engage in myth-busting, facts and perimenopause.

Black History Month Every October we deliver interactive and engaging workshops that celebrate African and Caribbean culture through art, music, and creative movement. Black History Month is a very busy time for us, so get in touch soon to see how we can work together. Arts and crafts We can adapt our art and crafts workshops to cover topics that support your interests, including: Recycling Nature Space Identity and belonging Cultural identity Cultural dance and creative movement Our two-part dance and movement sessions involve a fun and cultural dance session with African, Caribbean, Middle Eastern movements. This is followed by a relaxing and slow-paced session using varied choreographic techniques. Music and storytelling Using music, singing and storytelling, our workshops will help participants to explore different cultures, identity, and memory using: drumming singing keyboards And more! Wellbeing We deliver wellbeing sessions that aim to create a space for participants away from their worries, unwind and relax. We use a range of techniques including: Yoga Mindfulness Relaxation Working with schools Our engaging workshops for schools takes your students on a creative journey where cultural stories come to life. Each workshop can be part of your school's curriculum, and tailored to meet your needs. We mentor diverse artists as they develop their creative practice We deliver early career mentoring for artists looking to develop their skills in creative facilitation settings with young people in schools and community groups in: Participatory arts School workshops Theatre and performance art Dance and creative movement Facilitation skills Data and evaluation Our mentees build a strong foundation in how their chosen art form and creativity can support children and young people in schools, community groups and other youth settings. And we work closely with our partners and networks to provide citywide opportunities for emerging artists to develop their skills through schools and different organisations in the charity sector - and beyond. Payment Terms Payments are due within 30 days of the invoice date. There is a 5% late payment fee for payments made more than 30 days past the invoice date. Payment Processing We will send an invoice for each payment. Invoices can be paid online, by BACS, or by cheque. Once payment is received, we will send a receipt. Afrocats Workshop Cancellation Policy If a school or organisation cancels a workshop booking more than 14 days before the scheduled date, there will be no cancellation fee. If a school cancels a workshop booking less than 14 days before the scheduled date, there will be a 50% cancellation fee. If a school cancels a workshop booking on the day of the scheduled date, there will be a 100% cancellation fee. The cancellation fee will be used to cover the costs of the workshop, including the cost of staff, materials, and any rentals. If a school needs to cancel a workshop booking due to unforeseen circumstances, such as bad weather or school closure, the school should contact us as soon as possible. In these cases, Afrocats may be able to reschedule the workshop or issue a refund. Schools are encouraged to book their workshops as early as possible to secure their spot and to avoid any cancellation fees. Refunds Refunds will be processed within 10 business days of the request.

At the end of January our Forever Manchester funding for culturally appropriate food parcels runs out and our waiting list is growing.
